Roll Top Desk.
#7624FP. Circa 1850. Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. This is an excellent example of the work of a country American cabinetmaker prior to the Civil War. Cherry with tiger maple veneer. Secondary woods include yellow pine, poplar, tiger maple & cherry. Bottom drawer fronts are solid tiger maple. Original canvas backing to roll-top. Drawers both above and below work section. Roll top opens to reveal slide-out, leather-topped work surface below cubbyholes and small drawers. Center tambour door reveals another small drawer and release for hidden vertical drawer. Very good condition. Old and new repairs. Finish recently restored but not replaced. Nice patina. Hand-cast replaced hardware. New leather writing surface with hand-tooled 24K gold edge.
