7926PP. Circa 1832. Paris, France. Oil on Canvas with original stretcher; frame is gold leaf and gilt on gesso on pine. The artist, Jean Louis-Ernest Meissonier (1815-1891), was a leading French classicist painter and sculptor. This portrait was probably painted while he was still a teenager, and is signed lower left. Although the subject is unknown for certain, it has been suggested that it may be Napoleon's mother. Frame appears to be original and has a plaque with the artist's name.
