Louis XVI Commode (Chest of Drawers)
#8054FP. Circa 1770. Probably Italy. Walnut and walnut veneer with fruitwood inlay and mixed secondary woods. Hand-made solid brass hardware. This early Louis XVI commode shows the transition from Louis XV (the legs and canted corners) to Louis XVI. It has a rich, mellow glow and marvelous patina. The old replacement ornate ormolu hardware is a wonderful counter-statement to the simpler design of the piece. Very good condition. Old and new repairs. Cleaned and restored old finish.
